Respect and Fulfillment

Education friends, CCSD friends:

Of the many issues I care about in public education, including effective and thriving integrated schools and community engagement and support of our schools, none is more critical than that our teachers are respected and fulfilled in their profession. And that is why I share this piece about a recent poll and what it says about the state of our schools and the teachers teaching in them:

I should add that my perspective is strengthened by the fact that my oldest daughter is about to graduate from college and go to grad school for a career in early childhood education. I have been saying for a while that I hope that by the time she gets out, teaching is still a profession worth pursuing. Of course it is but current policies at all levels seem to be undermining teacher efficacy at all turns.

Surely we can do better, and parents demanding better is part of that equation IMHO. Next school board meeting: January 10, 2019, 6 PM District Office off Broad.
